Using beautiful words
There are
many different types of poetry
Acrostic,
Ballad, Cinquain, Rhyming, Haiku and Shape.
Which of these is your favourite?
Do you know the difference between them?
Here is some information about Haiku to help you out.
Haiku
A syllable is a part of a word pronounced as a unit. It is usually made up of a vowel alone or a vowel with one or more consonants. The word "Haiku" has two syllables: Hai-ku; the word "introduction" has four syllables: in-tro-duc-tion.
"Haiku" is a traditional form of Japanese poetry. Haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a Haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The lines rarely rhyme.
Here's a Haiku to help you remember:
I am first with five
Then seven in the middle --
Five again to end.
Because
Haikus are such short poems, they are usually written about things that are
recognizable to the reader. Animals and seasons are examples of this. Then seven in the middle --
Five again to end.
Here are
some haiku’s to read and ponder.
An old
silent pond...
A frog jumps
into the pond,
splash!
Silence again.
A
summer river being crossed
how pleasing
with sandals
in my hands!
The crow has
flown away:
swaying in
the evening sun,
a leafless
tree.
What is your hypothesis?
During the course of last term we completed a lot of scientific experimentation with food. To try and answer the question Are Chefs Scientists? Here is the culmination of or learning with our experimentation day when we turned our room into a creative scientific kitchen.

Fish n Chips, YUMMY

On a dark rainy night in March when the sky had opened, Room 17 had an evening at school. Families brought there dinners to school. It was an opportunity to chat, mingle and most importantly for the children to PLAY!!
We had a large range of foods, Pizza, K.F.C, sushi and Fish n Chips. Everyone had a great time and the parents all had a chance to meet each other.
If you came let us know how you felt about the evening, if you didn't come let us know what you would have brought and the games that you would like to have played

The wonderful world of Oobleck
Today in Rich Task we tested out knowledge of what we think a liquid and a solid is. We made a substance called Oobleck using cornflour and water.
We had to modify our recipe and looked at ratio's of substances to do this. We worked out the ratio was 2:1 cornflour to water.
Here is some of our thinking as we were manipulating the Oobleck. Next we will have to record our findings so we can remember what we saw, felt and thought.
What do you think??
It certainly was a lot of fun and very hands on or should we say hands in.

Fair Test Number 3

After changing the detergent to see what happened we then decided to change the liquid that we were testing to see if it gave us any answers.
We only changed on variable so that the test remained fair. We tested full fat milk as our control, Trim Milk, Diet Coke, Vinegar, Apple Juice and Orange Juice.
We recorded our observations and some of them were very surprising.
